Jimmy Kimmel Live managed to meld two beloved violent American institutions into one glorious being this week and we are so much better for it. Yes, thanks to Kimmel, Quentin Tarantino and Looney Tunes have been paired up at last.
Wednesday night’s edition of the late night show had our host revealing his new passion project: Putting out family-friendly versions of R-rated movies. QT’s multiple Oscar nominee The Hateful Eight was lucky enough to get this scrub and polish for increased accessibility with the motion picture getting mashed up with a Looney Tunes short. In this Kimmel Kartoon, Bugs Bunny subs in as Samuel L. Jackson’s Major Marquis Warren and Yosemite Sam is outfitted with the dialogue of Demián Bichir’s character Bob. It’s an unsettlingly smooth fit when you get to experience it one slick minute-long chunklet. It’s a shame we can’t get a bonus go-around with Bugs still channeling Sam Jackson, but for the “blanket” scene with Elmer Fudd playing Bruce Dern. Aw well, that’d undo the family-friendly side of things anyhow.
Kimmel and Tarantino seem to have a pretty chummy relationship, so there’s a chance Tarantino got a kick out of it. (Heck, Tarantino even directed an episode of JKL ages ago.) On the other hand, Tarantino turned down cameo-ing in an Itchy & Scratchy portion of a 90s era The Simpsons ep so there’s no guarantees.
