HBO NOW is bringing us some delicious nuggets in the realm of film and TV this August, none perhaps as juicy as Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Innocence). If that’s not enough to tame your hunger for quality programming, well then you have the season finales of True Detective, Ballers, and The Brink, as well as Tig Notaro’s new comedy special and the premiere of the new season of Hard Knocks. Here’s some of what you can expect from HBO NOW this coming month…
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Innocence) (8/1)
Birdman is easily one of the best pictures of 2014 thanks to a flawless performance from Michael Keaton and mind-blowing cinematography from Emmanuel Lubezki. The film won Oscars for Best Picture, Screenplay, Directing, and Cinematography, and if you haven’t caught this gem yet, then here’s your chance.
Show Me a Hero: Part 1 & Part 2 (8/16)

The Wire is not only one of HBO’s best offerings ever, it’s one of the best TV shows ever created. Creator David Simon returns to HBO with this mini-series chronicling Nick Wasicsko’s mayoral run in Yonkers as an intense housing dispute threatens to tear the city apart.
True Detective: Season two (8/9)
Who the hell killed Caspere? Hopefully, by the end of the second season of True Detective, we’ll have that answer. But, there’s plenty of other questions in the air like what will happen to Frank’s criminal empire, will Ray get his life under control (will he grow back the mustache), and will Ani stop having sex with her co-workers? Also, will the Owl-man who shot Ray come to justice? Ugh…so much to be answered and only three episodes left.
