Today is Kathie Lee Gifford’s 60th birthday. To celebrate, her Today Show partner in crime Hoda Kotb showed up unannounced at her Greenwich manse, camera crew in tow, for an abbreviated, live surprise party.
Here are my favorite parts of the video:
1) The fact that in about 70 seconds of actual screen time, they managed to pack in (a) hugs and kisses, (b) a mariachi performance, (c) birthday cake, (d) champagne, and (e) an airplane flying over her house with a message that said “HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHIE LEE” trailing behind it. It was incredibly efficient, as far as birthday celebrations go.
2) The fact that Hoda Kotb did all this with a glass of wine in hand, ever the professional.
3) The fact that Kathie Lee answered the door at about 8:30 a.m. — allegedly unaware this was all happening (UPDATE: As pointed out in the comments, she is wearing a microphone when she answers the door, so…) — holding a Bloody Mary AS BIG AS THE MOON. To clarify: Ninety minutes before she was scheduled to anchor a live television broadcast in Manhattan, she had just finished pouring herself a large adult beverage in Connecticut. Kathie Lee is BOUT THAT LIFE.
Honestly, the more I think about it, the more I realize that Kathie Lee Gifford might have the best job in the world.
