Investigation Discovery is not waiting to cash in on the harrowing New York prison escape that has been compared to The Shawshank Redemption and Prison Break. They want coverage now and they’re out to solve the case, or at least force the escaped to turn themselves in. Prison Break: Killers On The Run is a special that will air on Thursday night as part of ID’s new “instamentary” line of programming. According to Deadline, the network has one goal in mind with their program: forcing these criminals into a corner to be found by authorities:
“We encourage convicts Matt and Sweat to watch Prison Break: Killers On The Run and turn themselves in to authorities peacefully,” said Henry Schleiff, who is group president of Discovery Communications’ channel portfolio that includes ID network and apparently is very broadminded as to his target audience.
“As our documentary shows, the noose is tightening and you will be found,” he said, around the time CNN was interviewing talking heads about the fact that the search for the two men had “gone cold.”
The ID special will also talk about the planning that went into the escape and the involvement of Joyce Mitchellby utlizing police officers, prison officials and fellow inmates.
