If you think there was one book that didn’t need to advertise (other than Fifty Shades of Grey, of course), it’s the Bible. The Guinness Book of World Records lists it — in all its various forms — as having sold more than 5 billion copies worldwide. Still, in the mid-’80s, someone decided the Bible needed some jazzing up and, with a host of other celebrities from the time, repackaged it as “The Book.” Luckily for all of us, our friends at Christian Nightmares dug it up for us to see.
Never referring to it as The Bible by name — just as “The Book” — the biggest names in entertainment (such as Abe Vigoda, a pre-teen Jason Bateman, Steven Gross from Family Ties, and Bubba Smith) display how much they love “The Book” while country-music legend Glen Campbell sings about how it’s full of “romance and mystery.” Why isn’t there a toll-free number for me to call? Is this a Time Life book?
Let’s be honest, too — it’s not the weirdest ad for a religious book to come out of the ’80s.
So, who else do you recognize?
