A debate rages on over which major holiday has the best candy: Easter or Halloween? While Halloween seems like the obvious answer, the prevalence of candy corn is a major strike against it. Also, for some reason, any candy in the shape of an egg is a genuine winner, so, while it may be an unpopular opinion, Easter might have the edge in the sugar department. However, if you find yourself on the side of #TeamEasterCandy, you may have fallen prey to an Illuminati conspiracy, at least according to John Oliver.
Sadly, there was no Last Week Tonight this week due to the holiday, but Oliver and company didn’t leave fans high and dry. Instead of an Easter basket, we were gifted with an online exclusive about YouTube conspiracy videos, otherwise known as “The Weird Part Of YouTube That You Find When You Run Out Of Pimple Popping Videos.” After reminding us that “Katy Perry is JonBenet Ramsey” was a thing for a hot minute, Oliver takes on one of the greatest questions of our time. Why are Cadbury Creme Eggs so popular, despite being “a terrible candy that tastes like mermaid placenta covered in candle wax?” Oliver’s tin-hat-fueled verbal acrobatics are hilariously overwrought, but they may make you question whether you’ve bought into what Big Chocolate is feeding you.
