Judge Judy is many things. She’s a Halloween costume inspiration, hero to many middle-aged women, and a multi-multi-multi millionaire. But she’s not on the Supreme Court, as way too many college graduates seem to believe.
Last summer, the American Council of Trustees and Alumni asked 1,000 educated adults some simple questions about the United States. What they found… probably won’t shock you: College grads “are alarmingly ignorant of America’s history and heritage.” Who can keep track of Antonin Scalia vs. Judge Judy when there are sorority videos to be made?
Nearly 10% of college graduates surveyed in a poll believe Judith Sheindlin, a.k.a. Judge Judy, serves on the Supreme Court.
The survey also found 28.4% of college graduates correctly identify the father of the Constitution as James Madison. About 59% of college students surveyed believe the father of the Constitution was Thomas Jefferson, who was actually the principal writer for the Declaration of Independence. (Via)
Give the grads some credit. They know fellow syndicated personality Pat Sajak is the host of Wheel of Fortune, and Steve Harvey is a United States ambassador at the United Nations, promoting co-operation between foreign countries. He’s not very good at his job.
