Kate McKinnon might be new to this awards show thing but she certainly knows who to thank in her acceptance speeches.
The Saturday Night Live star took home the Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, and after choking back some tears and thanking her boss Lorne Michaels, she made sure to give a shout out to two women who have helped propel her to fame: Hillary Clinton and Ellen DeGeneres.
McKinnon is one of SNL’s strongest comedians but her impersonations are what really stand out on the show. She’s done everyone from Justin Bieber to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, but DeGeneres and Clinton are her bread and butter. She’s played both women several times — dropping by Ellen to dance it out with the host, and knocking a few back with Clinton herself when the presidential hopeful came on SNL and played a bartender during the primaries.
Clinton even sent the star a tongue-in-cheek tweet, congratulating her on her win.
Congratulations on your Emmy, Kate! Big fan of yours, too. pic.twitter.com/w00QO1GwyH

McKinnon also took some time to thank her family — her mom and sister– and her late father who encouraged her to begin watching SNL when she was just 12 years-old.
It’s nice to see McKinnon recognized for her hard work on the comedy series, and it sounds like she’s going to be an even bigger player when season 42 premieres.
