Of the many things Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt did well in its first season, songs about black penis is one of them. Also, impeccable casting. It’s already impossible to imagine a world without Ellie Kemper and Tituss Burgess as Kimmy and, um, Titus, in it. Now, creators Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, and executive producer Jack Burditt are hard at work adding another actress into Kimmy’s strong-as-hell universe… her mom.
“What I know about [my mom] is that she wore short skirts and maybe wasn’t the most attentive mother so it might be a sad revelation who the mother was,” Ellie Kemper [said]. “[Kimmy] didn’t really have a family to go back to so I’m interested to know who that mom will be. I have a feeling whatever sadness is there will be dealt with a humorous way.”
“Joan Cusack played my mom in the series finale of The Office which was amazing. That was great casting,” said Kemper. “I’m not going to name any other woman because what if a woman gets insulted that I said they could play my mom? So I’ll just name my mom, Dotty Kemper.” (Via)
So, who should play Dotty Kemper? Amy Poehler is the obvious option, despite her only being eight years older than Kemper. More age-appropriate would be Kelly Bishop from Gilmore Girls, or Jessica Walters from Arrested Development. I would also accept Not Miss Piggy.
