On Sunday evening, Maisie Williams popped by the London Film Critics’ Circle Awards where she was named Young British Performer of the Year. The 18-year-old has edged into film (namely in The Falling) in addition to her guest role on Doctor Who, which (for reasons unknown) was evidently a lot like her Arya Stark role on Game of Thrones.
Naturally, the subject of the HBO series came up on the red carpet, and Williams excitedly told The Upcoming, “Everything is now sort of wrapping up and slotting into place for the finale. I love that all the pieces are coming together.” As GoT fans know, the show’s resolution (even with a possible two more seasons) will likely “slot” together well before George R.R. Martin’s source material does.
Audiences also realize how the race to the Season 6 premiere in April has led to much HBO-stoked debate on Jon Snow’s fate. Cast members can’t avoid these questions, although Natalie Dormer managed to avoid giving spoilers. Dormer even said she didn’t know Jon Snow’s fate, but Williams seems to be in the know. At least, she’s dropping hints like crazy:
“I feel so mean because I speak to people and they’re all like ‘Jon Snow, is he back?’ and it’s like really heartbreaking because people are like ‘yeah, but he’s coming back though?’ It’s a great twist but I can’t say he’s going to be alive.”
Well, it feels like Jon Snow’s return may be the poorest kept secret in cable television history, but you never know what HBO will do. Williams previously said Snow was pretty dang dead, but look at all the evidence on both sides. It’s still a mystery!
Here’s the video interview if you care to dig in and piece together Williams’ clues. The good stuff starts at around the 3:00 mark.
