The conceit of Jimmy Kimmel Live‘s Lie Witness News segment is to approach people on the street and ask them for their opinions on totally made up news, or totally made up news that hasn’t happened yet. In the past, the late night show has “gotten” people on everything from fake polar bear attacks to the name of Kim Kardashian’s baby to the recent State of the Union address.
But their special MLK Day edition of Lie Witness News goes above and beyond to document both people’s gullibility as well as just sheer, astounding ignorance, by stopping pedestrians to ask them what they think of Martin Luther King Jr. endorsing Donald Trump for President of the United States. Aside from the fact that Martin Luther King Jr. would not, in all likelihood, endorse Donald Trump if he were alive today, who does not know that King was assassinated nearly 50 years ago?
These people, apparently. Sometimes you just have to laugh to keep yourself from weeping for society.
