You might remember a while back that ABC was debating doing a spin-off of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., following Mockingbird and her ex-husband Lance Hunter as they, I don’t know, hunted Skrulls or something. ABC ultimately decided against it, although they left the door open to explore the idea in the future. Turns out it’s the near future; a few months later, it’s back on again. And it even has a title!
Marvel’s Most Wanted is, however, not a spin-off, according to ABC. No, really, this is what they told the Hollywood Reporter:
Titled Marvel’s Most Wanted, the drama was rumored to be in early development last pilot season and was originally conceived as an Agents of SHIELD spinoff featuring both characters. However, Marvel and ABC have instead picked up a pilot for what’s being described as a new take focusing on the same duo and their continuing adventures.
So, wait, it features the same actors, as the same characters, in the same universe… but it’s not a spin-off. It’s “a new take.” Okay then!
The truth is that Marvel’s Most Wanted might be where Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.‘s espionage plotlines go. The third season is going to be all about finding the various superheroes and villains revealed, thanks to S.H.I.E.L.D. tainting the food supply in last season’s finale. For people who want the superspy stuff, you have S.H.I.E.L.D. Lighting, er, Marvel’s Most Wanted.
Apparently, a lot depends on this pilot; if it’s any good, it’ll be used as a backdoor pilot on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to launch the new show. If not, we’ll at least have even more GIFs of Adrianne Palicki grabbing a pipe and kicking somebody, so everybody wins!
