When he was on The Graham Norton Show earlier this month, Friends star Matthew Perry crushed the trivia questions about the beloved sitcom that Norton threw his way. However, that depth of memory isn’t the case for much of his time on set. Perry’s struggles with alcohol and prescription drug abuse are well documented, but that doesn’t lessen the shock of some recent statements by Perry. While appearing on Britain’s BBC 2’s radio show, The Chris Evans Breakfast Show, to talk about his play The End of Longing, Evans asked about Perry’s least favorite Friends episode. Perry admitted that his memories of the Friends set are cloudy at best.
“Oh my goodness,” he said. “I think the answer is I don’t remember three years of it. So none of those … somewhere between season 3 and 6… a little bit of the time, I was a little out of it, yeah.”
Luckily, Perry was able to recognize that he had a problem and needed to seek out help. Still, it is sad to think that he lost so much during that period of time. Still, he seems to be in a good place now. When he spoke about his life as an addict to People in 2013, he said:
“I was a hopelessly narcissistic guy, and I only thought about myself, and then that just shifted, and when that happened, I got some true happiness and comfort in my life.”
