It can be really tough for some actors to make the leap from TV to movies. Matthew Perry has no problem admitting he is one of them. Even though he landed a few roles in some major films after his Friends run, that portion of his career never really took flight. The actor himself joked about it during a panel for his new Odd Couple reboot TV show he is doing for CBS with the always hilarious Thomas Lennon:
“I’m doing ‘The Odd Couple’ because my attempt at being a movie star failed,” Perry, who serves as executive producer on the series as well as playing sloppy sports journalist Oscar Madison, cracked.
Interesting side note about this series. The Odd Couple was a movie first (in 1968) that was then made into a successful TV show from 1970-1975 (with different stars from the movie). There was then an actual movie sequel in 1998, reuniting the stars from the original film. Now it’s being rebooted again in 2015, with all new stars. That’s some pretty impressive mileage.
