Published in 1963, The Man Who Fell to Earth is about an alien who comes to our planet seeking water for his “people” back home. The Walter Tevis-written book was turned into a film in 1976 starring David Bowie, and it’s being adapted again, this time with Dexter star Michael C. Hall as the humanoid-alien made famous by the Thin White Duke, Thomas Jerome Newton.
Lazarus, co-written by Bowie and Once playwright Enda Walsh, will premiere off-Broadway on November 18th at the New York Theatre Workshop, “with official opening night set for December 7th. That’s according to the Hollywood Reporter, which also says it “remains unclear whether Lazarus will be a full-fledged musical or a play with songs.” Either way, there will be new David Bowie compositions, probably about the irony of coming to Earth for water.
