Modeling sounds like a great job. People are literally throwing money at you because you’re gorgeous, the personification of physical perfection, and everyone wants to be you or be with you. If you’re Karlie Kloss or David Gandy, that is. Most models have to wait weeks, if not months, between assignments, and even when they do line up a gig, it’s probably for something that doesn’t pay much. Someone has to pose in JCPenney catalogs.
Erin Gavin isn’t a model, but he knows what it’s like to have a job that sounds cooler than it actually is. He’s the “blur editor” on Discovery’s Naked and Afraid, which means he gets to say things like “we like to think the fake boobs are easier to pixelate” and “realistically, the crotch is easiest.” There’s nothing easy about the job, though. Gavin says it’s “extremely tedious work,” and that he’s seen “people come and go from here. They just don’t have it in them.”
Other choice quotes from the interview:
“We’ve had guys ask for a bigger blur”
“And we’ve got several scenarios with the butt blur”
“There’s the weenie waggler — that’s the stuff moving around”
“Side boob is popular”
“There’s also spillage, peen, naughty bits, the chinchilla”
It’s all Naked and Afraid fun and games until there’s “spillage.”
