The first trailer for the second season of Narcos, the popular Netflix crima drama, emphasized Pablo Escobar’s escape at the end of season one. However, in a move channeling the streaming service’s claim that the show is more popular than Game of Thrones, the newly released second trailer focuses on a single question: “Who killed Pablo Escobar?” There’s even a nifty hashtag to go along with it!
Anyone familiar with the rise and fall of Escobar’s drug-trafficking empire, and Escobar himself, already knows the outcome. Yet fans of Narcos would rather watch Escobar (Wagner Moura) duke it out with DEA agent Steve Murphy (Boyd Holbrook) and the rest of the supporting cast for 10 episodes. Hence the show’s promotion of the above question, and the many different parties — DEA, Cali Cartel, Los Pepes, Search Bloc — who pursued Escobar following his escape from La Catedral prison in Medellín, Colombia. Whether for competitive advantage or revenge, everyone wanted him dead.
Judging by the new trailer, Narcos‘s second season might be just as good as its predecessor. Then again, none of the promotional images made available by Netflix were as good as this beauty:
Narcos season two streams Friday, Sept. 2 exclusively on Netflix.
