Perhaps more successfully than the sum of all its crime-drama cousins, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has tapped into our nation’s collective morbid, squeamish curiosities and transformed them into fiercely entertaining episodic television — and it’s been doing this, unthinkably, for 17 seasons. The series and its dedicated sex crimes unit have endured bumps, the departure of one of its stars, and Hillary Duff, but it’s managed to effortlessly retain its momentum throughout. Details about the upcoming 18th season are being leaked, and one episode will reportedly feature a mini E.R. reunion.
Anthony Edwards, known most notably for his eight-season tenure on the pioneering medical drama, will have a guest spot on Law & Order: SVU during its forthcoming run, reuniting him with former love interest Mariska Hargitay. Before earning her badge and title of Favorite Female TV Character, Hargitay guest-starred on E.R.‘s fourth season, playing a love interest to Edwards’ Dr. Mark Greene. The specifics of his character — pervert? nonpervert? — were not made available, so we’ll have to wait till the episode’s end to learn whether he did it. Other featured guests will include America’s cool dad Joe Biden as himself, E.T.‘s Henry Thomas, and Lie to Me‘s Kelli Williams.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit returns Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
