Padma Lakshmi Wanted To ‘Slap That B*tch’ Ann Coulter On National TV

Top Chef host Padma Lakshmi has survived a lot. She was married to a man who had a fatwa issued for his execution, and she survived a car accident when she was a teenager that left her with a lifelong scar. But even Padma Lakshmi has no patience for conservative author and commentator Ann Coulter.

On Watch What Happens Live last week, Lakshmi spoke about an encounter with Coulter while she was a guest host on The View and Coulter was promoting her book, Adios America!: The Left’s Plan to Turn Our Country Into a Third-World Hellhole. During her segment, Coulter made her feelings about America’s immigration policy known, saying, “We’re bringing in millions and millions of people from very poor cultures, from very backwards cultures. We don’t need to be importing other countries’ poor people.”

You can watch Coulter talk about the United States’ immigration policy around the 5:00 mark.

What you might also notice is that Padma Lakshmi is shifting uncomfortably in her seat. Lakshmi herself is an immigrant, having been born in India. To say she wasn’t particularly taken with Coulter’s position on immigration would be an understatement, as she relayed on Watch What Happens Live:

“Ann Coulter was there promoting her book on immigration and she was sitting next to me, and obviously I’m an immigrant, as you are [fellow WWHL guest Adriana Lima], and so is [The View co-host] Ana Navarro, and so it’s … She got into it with everybody.

“I was thinking, ‘Lord, please don’t let me slap a b*tch on national TV.’ It was my first time on The View and Ann Coulter is a very bright woman, she’s whip smart, she has a right to her own opinion. And I’m on The View, I respect her right to express her point of view. But, you know, I don’t agree with a lot of her views and I don’t agree with them for some very vehement reasons. Especially on immigration. I just thought, ‘I have to be graceful because I have a limit. She may not have that limit.’ I didn’t even need to talk. You can see it on my face.”

I suspect that Lakshmi is not the first person who wanted to slap Ann Coulter on national television, and I suspect she won’t be the last. In fact, based on the segment above, you can sense that The View co-host Ana Navarro was thinking the very same thing.
