Coulrophobia is the fear of clowns, and it is a legitimate thing (it even makes clowns sad). Something about the ambiguity of the face makeup and the anonymity of the person hidden behind it just strikes fear in some people’s hearts. One of those hearts recently belonged to uber-geek and hilarious comedian Patton Oswalt. He had a run in with a clown at a birthday party he took his daughter to recently that would rival anything you saw on American Horror Story this season. He sums it up best in one quote:
A clown in the distance during the daytime is ball-retractingly terrifying.
