Peter Dinklage stopped by The Daily Show last night to discuss this Sunday’s Season 5 premiere of Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, and the fate of his character. While he didn’t provide any real insight or information into the upcoming season, he did share an interesting anecdote when Jon Stewart asked him about The Mountain.
Pretty much everyone just refers to the Icelandic strongman (real name Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson) as “The Mountain” these days, whether talking about the man or the character he plays. It’s kind of like Screech, only instead of trying to stab you over Smirnoff Ice (allegedly!), he will just crush a man’s head. At any rate, Dinklage recalled a night dining in Croatia with Björnsson when he ordered and ate seven whole roast chickens from a restaurant. Seven chickens.
That’s probably like, Peter Dinklage’s entire body weight in chickens! Stewart also asked about Mountain breaking that 1,000-year-old weightlifting record, and if he just goes around on the set of Game of Thrones picking stuff up like on The Flintstones. Never a dull moment when you work with a 400-pound strongman.
