The PlayStation Network-exclusive, Powers, didn’t exactly receive glowing reviews from either critics or fans, but apparently it achieved whatever Sony wanted it to achieve, because the show is coming back for a second season. Hey, at least now they can boast the show is from the co-creator of Jessica Jones.
For this season, it looks as if Powers is going to be drawing more heavily from the comic books created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming. While the first season of Powers largely dropped the comic’s noir trappings and tightly structured arcs, the second season will be directly adapting the “Who Killed Retro Girl?” storyline. This was the first arc in the comics, the one that put Powers on the map, and it seems the Powers producers are hoping it will do the same for the TV show. In addition to the Retro Girl storyline, the new season has a darker, more richly cinematic look to it.
Did any of you manage to track down the first season of Powers on the PlayStation Network? What did you think? Does the second season look more promising, or is there no power strong enough to rescue Powers from mediocrity?
