Remember that unauthorized, off-off-off-Broadway Saved by the Bell parody musical we told you about last summer? The one that’s been taking the Big Apple by storm, playing to raucous, standing-room-only crowds in the East Village? Of course you do. It’s nuts. How could you forget?
Anyway, back when it first started blowing up, I had a realization: either Screech or Mr. Belding was going to end up appearing in this. Like, the real Screech or Mr. Belding, Dustin Diamond or Dennis Haskins. Definitely. 100%. The only question I had was which one would sign on first. Aaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnd…
Dennis Haskins, best known for his role as Mr. Belding on the television series Saved by the Bell, will join the cast of Bayside! The Musical!, the unauthorized stage parody of the iconic teen comedy, for the February 7 and 8 performances at Theater 80.
See, the funnier thing would have been if they cast the dude who played Rod Belding in the role of Mr. Belding and went around making a BIG FREAKING DEAL about it to get everyone’s hopes up, and then, on the night of the performance, announced to the crowd that he didn’t show up and the role would be filled by his understudy. That’s when they should have trotted out Haskins. People would have lost it. Madness. Total anarchy in the theater. Probably.
But hey, what the hell do I know, right?
