Netflix knows that when it comes to reviving fan favorite series, they sometimes need to go that extra mile to ensure fans that their favorite shows aren’t coming back as some sort of Frankenstein’s monster for the sole purpose of being able to say, “Hey, we brought it back, you just didn’t ask for more details.” They have a pretty good track record thus far, with standouts like the fourth season of Arrested Development, W/ Bob and David, and Trailer Park Boys. That’s also why they need to be careful when it comes to the rapid-fire, verbose, and delightful Gilmore Girls when it returns to the small screen.
According to Mashable, they’ve done a bit of casting that is sure to make any nerd jump for joy by casting Alex Kingston in a recurring role in the series. Kingston, who has taken on a wide array of roles throughout her career, including Dr. Elizabeth Corday on ER, Dinah Drake Lance on Arrow, and of course (of course) River Song in Doctor Who. She seems like a natural fit for Gilmore Girls, a show that oddly enough, filmed at the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank at the same time as ER did. At Florida SuperCon she was asked about her role in Gilmore Girls, but didn’t want to give too much away.

She seems pretty positive about the whole experience and apparently all of her scenes were filmed on location, not on a sound stage. If only she could be River Song and have time-traveled back to Stars Hollow, Connecticut in the strangest crossover in television history.
