Back in June, Netflix announced that it is making a new multi-camera comedy titled The Ranch, which will be produced by two of the higher-ups at Two and a Half Men, and will star former That ’70s Show veterans Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson as brothers running a family business. If “Kutcher and Masterson play brothers in a multi-cam from the minds behind Two and a Half Men” doesn’t exactly do it for you, (a) join the club, and (b) there may be a teeny, tiny silver lining on the horizon. And that teeny, tiny silver lining is a thick, luxurious silver mustache.
That’s right, enter Sam Elliott. Via Deadline:
The Ranch is set on a Colorado spread, with Kutcher’s character returning home after a brief semi-pro football career to run the family business with his brother, played by Masterson.
Elliott will play the boys’ father, a rancher who has a complicated relationship with Kutcher’s character who left the family business to play ball.
So, then the real question here becomes what, exactly, they mean by “a complicated relationship.” Because, as much as this sounds like Netflix making a play for that CBS/Chuck Lorre/Two and a Half Broke Bang Theories audience, if Sam Elliott channels his character from the final season of Justified, then we could have an interesting television program on our hands.
