Netflix continues to march on in its bid to consume every waking hour of your life (howdy sleep-deprived Daredevil bingers!) and now the streaming giant has a new series lined up with Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant that’s likely to gobble up a big ol’ chunk of time. After all, it’s not your time anymore. It’s Netflix’s.
Steady yourself for the single camera comedy Santa Clarita Diet which is due out next year with Olyphant and Barrymore both starring in and executive producing the small screen offering. According to Deadline, the show is from cult comedy hero Victor Fresco who created programs with small but mighty fanbases like Andy Richter Controls The Universe and Better Off Ted. What can you expect from Olyphant’s return to TV in non-Justified form?
In Santa Clarita Diet, Joel (Olyphant) and Sheila (Barrymore) are husband and wife realtors leading vaguely discontented lives in the L.A. suburb of Santa Clarita, until Sheila goes through a dramatic change sending both their lives down a road of death and destruction… but in a good way.
Death, destruction and husband and wife realtors, eh? Mix that in with two reliably engaging stars and a creator that comedy dorks drool over and it sounds like a winning proposition. That whole waiting until 2017 thing seems like a bit of a pain, but we’ve all got loads of TV to catch up on so it sorta evens out. 13 episodes are currently expected of the first season of Santa Clarita Diet with filming scheduled to begin in May.
