It all sounded like one ridiculous 90s fever dream at first. A Cruel Intentions small screen revival? With Sarah Michelle Gellar onboard too? It wasn’t IMPOSSIBLE to imagine/hallucinate such a thing (heck, Fox attempted a series ages ago), but could it be for real? Like really real? Well, SMG’s Instagram account has put all doubts to rest.
Gellar has recently unloaded a trio of snaps that confirm both a Cruel Intentions pilot and the return of Kathryn Merteuil are on the way. Bring on the visual evidence! Here’s the tease of Gellar going from blonde to brunette.
WHAT IS HAPPENING, INDEED? (You probably sorted it out already, please play along until the end of the tour.
Boom! Brunette! That’s a legally binding hair contract more or less and that means Kathryn’s badass brand of villainess glamour can’t be far behind. Oh, and we suppose this pic of the pilot script counts as proof too if you don’t buy into social media showcases of coiffure as the gospel.
The new series is currently being put together for NBC and will focus on Bash Casey, the son of Sebastian Valmont and Annette Hargrove from the original film (a.k.a. Ryan Phillippe and Reese Witherspoon’s characters). We’re being promised sex, money, sex, power, sexy power, corruption and double bonus sexual sexiness with this go-around. Roger Kumble, the man that wrote and directed the first two movies, is onboard to direct the pilot, executive produce and co-author episode one.
Let’s weasel in one more throwback-to-the-future pic just for extra confirmation, shall we?
Tremendous.
