Former Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty is once again sharing details of her fight with breast cancer with the public, posting an intimate series of photos on her Instagram account documenting the latest stage in her battle: shaving her head.
Doherty shared the images on social media on Tuesday, first prepping for her haircut with some chocolates and cupcakes, and surrounding herself with her friend Anne Marie Kortright and mother Rosa Doherty, who provided emotional support throughout the process. Over the course of six photos, Doherty embraces her mother, tentatively clips off some locks with a pair of scissors, poses for a few smiling selfies midway through the hair removal, and finally shows off the shaved side of her head.
The Charmed actress first announced her diagnosis back in August 2015, revealing that she was currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer. “I am continuing to eat right, exercise and stay very positive about my life,” she told People at the time. “I am thankful to my family, friends and doctors for their support and, of course, my fans who have stood by me.”
Doherty was forced to address her health when documents surfaced on TMZ that revealed she was suing her former business manager for failing to pay her health insurance premiums, causing her coverage to lapse and delaying the detection of the disease. According to those documents, Doherty was first diagnosed in March 2015.
