Back in July, the BBC released the first teaser for the upcoming fourth season of the popular Sherlock series. Starring Benedict Cumbertbatch and Martin Freeman as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, respectively, the show’s first new episode since “The Abominable Bride” will air just in time for everyone’s post-New Year’s Eve hangover on Sunday, January 1st. And judging by the new 15-second teaser posted to its official YouTube page, it seems Holmes and Watson are going to feel just as good as everyone else who’ll be watching their latest detecting efforts come New Year’s Day.
Titled “It’s Not A Game Anymore,” the short teaser depicts Freeman’s Watson and Cumberbatch’s Holmes sitting across from one another in the latter’s rusty, unclean apartment. The yellow smiley face spray-painted to hide a few bullet holes still occupies a prominent place on the wall, the bookshelves look like they’re about to buckle, and… the violin’s floating in the water? Yes, the violin’s floating in the water, for Sherlock’s second-story flat is (for reasons unknown) flooded by at least a foot of clear water.
No explanation is given for the pair’s predicament, though if I were to venture a guess, I’d say they were taking a spa day. Besides, with upcoming episode titles like “The Six Thatchers” and “The Lying Detective,” I’m sure Holmes and Watson deserve at least some semblance of a vacation.
