Due to recent mass shootings, gun control has once again become a hot topic for people to yell at each other about (as opposed to its usual spot as an ancillary topic that people yell about between episodes of Modern Family). While folks on both sides of the issue are opposed to these tragic events occurring time and time again, they tend to be diametrically opposed to how a solution should be handled.
For some on the pro-control side, this stalemate and the all-too-often repeating events indicate that the rules to possessing guns aren’t going to change anytime soon. SNL decided to take that apathy and channel it into a sketch about guns being given as gifts and becoming a normal part of the day. Whether going out for jog, finding love, or giving birth, the sketch suggests that if guns aren’t going anywhere, we may as well assimilate then into everyday life.
Think Homer Simpson after he bought his gun. The gun is a useful tool for any household problem that may arise. Rats? Grab that gun. Got a lightbulb that needs changing? Heard there’s a gun for that. Neighborhood dog using your yard as a toilet? Hey, put the gun down, you monster.
