It’s been a bumpy road to get to the point where a Star Trek Discovery trailer has finally seen the light of day. (Or the light of a blanket fort lantern. No judgement here.) Before today’s video peek, the bulk of the news about the latest franchise entry was about the exit of critically adored initial Discovery showrunner Bryan Fuller and a seemingly endless parade of delays plaguing the production. Fans and well-wishers have waited patiently for today and through the magic of the futuristic technology it’s never been easier to gather their thoughts.
Twitter had takes galore (as is its custom) on the first peek. Going off of the reaction in the hour after Star Trek Discovery’s debut it’s fair to say the early vision wasn’t overwhelmingly embraced by the entirity of the show’s fans. It’s not necessarily a rejection, but many of the more pessimistic 140 character or less reviews were hoping for something… more. That “more” includes a series with a more classic klingon design, by the way. On the flip side, Twitter was stuffed with a lot of optimistic and excited tweets about what the CBS All Access offering might bring. Consider it a mix of complaints, endorsements and a reminder of the importance of Sonequa Martin-Green’s presence as a Star Trek lead.

Been a fan of #StarTrek since I was about 6, the trailer looks like it's for a (high budget) fan film. Hope I'm wrong #StarTrekDiscovery

Doing a #startrek prequel is cowardice. instead of losing tech why don't you dare invent new tech and boldly predict the future again? pic.twitter.com/hbkzD2QyqR
