The Daily Show correspondents and real-life couple Samantha Bee and Jason Jones will be getting a pilot order for a new family comedy for TBS.
Bee and Jones have been developing three new comedies with TBS including Wrecked, a deserted island show, and another show titled Quality Time. This new comedy can be best described as American Horror Story, except with family vacations instead of horror sub-genres.
The Jones/Bee comedy will follow a family as they take a road trip to Key West. Jones plays hopeful dad Nate, who hops in the car with his wife and two young kids for a 24-hour adventure to the Keys. This comedy will prove that no matter how much close proximity can lead a family to get on each other’s nerves, precarious situations and interactions with strangers can bring them together again. Should this project go to series, each season will chronicle a different trip.
Road trips force family members to spend long hours in close proximity to each other, for better or for worse, and some of the best comedies are based on disastrous family vacations. Maybe TBS is also hoping that they can fund the show with brand tie-ins, like a season at Disney World or Universal Studios, or they can just use their work to take a vacation every once in a while, like Adam Sandler. Check out this clip where Sandler admits he has picked projects or re-located scripts because he wanted to vacation in Hawaii (50 First Dates) or Africa (Blended).
