“Economics of Marine Biology” was the kind of low-concept episode of Community we would have called “normal” had it aired in either season two or three. But it’s season four, and perhaps because it’s been surrounded by so much respectable mediocrity, it was one of my favorite episodes in the post-Harmon era.
That’s more of a compliment than it sounds. Jeff and Pierce’s “Cat’s in the Cradle” retelling continues to hum along nicely, adding a much-needed emotional arc to the season, while Annie, Britta, and especially the Dean’s attempts at convincing a rich douche to enroll at Greendale felt true to the character’s personalities. (A focused Dean is my favorite Dean.) Meanwhile, Troy and Shirley’s B-plot didn’t have a great payoff, but Troy hawking Let’s Chips was one of the season’s most genuine, loudest laughs. (The less said about Abed, the better — SIMPSONS DID IT.)
Now let’s gets some damn eyes on these GIFs.
