NBC had a field day cutting the fat out of their network’s lineup last week. But, their Thursday night tentpole show with James Spader in an endless supply of trench coats and fedoras that apparently everyone watches will be getting a spin-off. NBC announced this weekend that The Blacklist: Redemption will be appearing on the network for the upcoming fall season.
Blacklist: Redemption aired its backdoor pilot last Thursday night, but the show will make its debut this fall. Tom Keene played by Ryan Eggold will be partnering up with Susan “Scottie” Hargrave (Famke Janssen) who is the head honcho of Grey Matters; a covert ops mercenary organization. Tom soon discovers that Scottie has a secret regarding his past and decides to uncover the truth. Deadline said that their relationship on the new spin-off “resembles that between Raymond “Red” Reddington (James Spader) and Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) on the mothership series.” However, Janssen will be the one in the driver’s seat steering this female-led series, as the spin-off will also star Edi Gathegi and Tawny Cypress.
The Blacklist is not the only Peacock show getting the spin-off treatment. Paying tribute to spinning-off dramas multiple times (I’m looking at you Law and Order), NBC will be adding Chicago Justice to the popular Dick Wolf-produced Chicago franchise which has been a ratings darling for the struggling network.
