The Oregon standoff has inspired plenty of humorous reactions online, including some creative hashtags and revelations about the occupying the federal wildlife reserve in Burns, Oregon. And now that late night is back in play, the Oregon standoff is playing right into the sweet spot for many hosts. The Daily Show spent two segments talking about the standoff, from its start to the plea for snacks that happened on the second day.
Trevor Noah whips through the events, including a look inside of the compound itself (more like a rest stop than a federal building). He also points out the mistake in comparing the race of the men involved to other groups protesting around the country. If these militiamen were African American, they wouldn’t even be near the Malheur National Wildlife Reserve. It’s cold and cramped and snowy.
In the second segment, Jordan Klepper decides to help out the men in Burns with their plea for snacks. He puts together a nice care package containing the warmest socks possible, a fine shirt, and a copy of Tomorrowland on Blu Ray. The only problem with that last one is they probably won’t get to watch it once the power is cut off.
