The Official Full Season Two Trailer For ‘The Flash’ Teases New Villains Atom-Smasher And Zoom

If there’s anything we should be taking away from the new trailer for The Flash, it’s that season two is going to be quite a fun, yet strange ride. Not only will Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears) show up, it looks like we are getting a better understanding of this season’s big bad — referred to here as an unstoppable speed demon — who you may know simply as Zoom.

A few weeks ago, it was announced that Candyman‘s own Tony Todd will voice the evil speedster, and, according to a recent conversation executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had with Entertainment Weekly, the character’s big reveal is meant to send chills up your spine:

We wanted another speedster as a villain, but we wanted to do something slightly different. Reverse Flash felt like a warrior, and what we wanted this time was something more akin to a monster. When you finally see Zoom, he looks like a demon, and it’s really scary. It’s more horrific. You should feel like when one of H.R. Giger’s aliens comes in the room. The mask is really amazing.

Another new character we see a lot of in the new trailer is the large — and in charge? — villain Atom Smasher (played by WWE superstar Adam “Edge” Copeland). With a similar motive to get back to his own parallel world, it looks like Mr. Smasher here is out to inflict some, well, damage. The new season will also feature the new additions Violett Beane as Jesse Quick and Demore Barnes as baddie Tokamak.

While there are indeed a bunch of new characters being thrown into the mix, season two of The Flash will feature the return of old favorites by continuing that kooky Gorilla Grodd storyline and by giving viewers a backstory of Captain Cold and Golden Glider’s family life, with the inclusion of Michael Ironside as their villainous father.

It seems like there is a lot of story and characters being packed into one season, but if it’s anything like last year, The CW’s flagship series has absolutely nothing to worry about. The wait to return to Central City is almost over, as season two of The Flash will premiere on October 6.
