Supergirl has been in development at CBS for a little while now. We’ve reported on different details of Greg Berlanti’s super-hero crime procedural pilot throughout the past few months. According to Deadline, however, the network has moved forward on its early decision to order the show to series:
As part of the deal for the project between CBS and Warner Bros. TV, the network had an early deadline to make a decision on the pilot, a perk reserved only for the biggest producers in town that CBS also has bestowed on Chuck Lorre. (CBS, which presents next Wednesday, usually doesn’t start making orders until Friday or Saturday of pre-upfront week.)
CBS originally gave Supergirl a series commitment back in September. Melissa Benoist headlines the series as Kara Zor-El, alongside Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Alex Danvers, Mehcad Brooks as James Olsen, and David Harewood as Hank Henshaw.
Supergirl is the first new series order for CBS and will air during the 2015-16 season.
