One of the most iconic comedic characters of the last 15 years is set to return next month. David Brent — the Ricky Gervais character from the original The Office — will return on The Office Revisited, a one-off special that will air on both the BBC and Ricky Gervais’ YouTube Channel during Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day on March 15. As Gervais notes, “Who says famine has to be depressing?” The special picks up with Brent a decade after we last saw him (excluding his appearances on the U.S. The Office), and we learn that he’s still pursuing his career of being a musician, following the complete lack of success of his “If You Don’t Know Me By Now” music video.
The Office Revisited finds David working a menial job while pursuing his true dream: making it in the music business. “He is passing on his wisdom to younger would-be rock stars now and is living vicariously through a young performer, Dom Johnson,” said Gervais. “Well, really he is trying to worm his way back into rock and roll. Fans of The Office will be excited to know we finally get to hear the whole of ‘The Serpent Who Guards the Gates of Hell’ and an amazing Brent self-funded video, ‘Equality Street.’ Horrendous.”
There’s a promo clip from the upcoming show, with actual footage, and Brent is as cringe-worthy as usual. It’s not available for embed, because Gervais obviously wants you to subscribe to his YouTube Channel. But click on over (it’s only a minute long) and check it out.
