T.J. Miller, the comedic actor who plays the outlandish Erlich Bachman on HBO’s Silicon Valley, will not stick around for the show’s recently announced fifth season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the premium cable network confirmed the news Thursday afternoon. Details are still forthcoming, but per an official statement from HBO, Miller and Silicon Valley‘s producers had apparently “mutually agreed” on the former’s exit from the series following the conclusion of the current fourth season.
“The producers of Silicon Valley and T.J. Miller have mutually agreed that T.J. will not return for season 5,” read the statement. “In Erlich Bachman, T.J. has brought to life an unforgettable character, and while his presence on the show will be missed, we appreciate his contribution and look forward to future collaborations.”
The rest of the cast, whose regular and recurring members include Thomas Middleditch, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Amanda Crew, Matt Ross, Jimmy O. Yang and Suzanne Cryer, is expected to stay on for season five. Yet the timing of Miller’s departure, so soon after the fifth season’s announcement, raises a few questions– especially since HBO’s statement was short on details. Like, will we ever learn the full backstory of Bachman’s former company Aviato, the start-up Jack “Action Jack” Barker expressed so much admiration for? (Probably not.)
