The Amazing Acro Cats performed on The Late Show for Stephen Colbert on Monday night, a cross-country touring act I can personally say that I have seen not once, but twice. The thing about trained, performing cats, however — if you’ve ever heard the phrase “herding cats” — is that even the most talented cats are pretty spotty when it comes to following cues. Depending which way the coin flips, this can make for either a spectacular performance or a spectacularly hilarious performance, and since the cats were performing on national television I probably don’t have to tell you which way it went.
Thankfully, a cat-ear-wearing Colbert was on hand to jump in when the cats weren’t feeling quite up to it. Later, the Acro Cats played with their rock band the Rock Cats (featuring a live chicken on the cymbal, obviously), to somewhat greater success. If you’d like to contribute to the Acro Cats new mobile foster home and tour bus, you can find their Kickstarter here.
