Even though the families of both John Candy and John Hughes have voiced their disappointment in the project, ABC is moving forward with their Uncle Buck series. Deadline reports the multi-camera sitcom will star Mike Epps and will be set for a midseason premiere:
Written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley, the series centers on Uncle Buck (Mike Epps), a fun loving but irresponsible guy who needs a job and a place to stay. By happy coincidence, his nieces and nephew’s Nanny has just quit and his brother and sister-in-law need his help. His unconventional personality just may make him the right fit for the family and they may be the answer to his problems, too. Nia Long, James Lesure, Iman Benson, Sayeed Shahidi and Aalyrah Caldwell co-star.
While many fans of the film are sure to be up-in-arms regarding this remake, Uncle Buck will probably fit right in with the rest of ABC’s quirky family sitcoms Modern Family, The Goldbergs, Black-ish and Fresh Off The Boat.
Then again, it’ll be a multi-camera sitcom that will presumably be filmed with a laugh track, so what the hell do I know?
