Things between Donald Trump and Univision are getting nasty.
Yesterday, Univision announced that it would sever ties with Donald Trump’s upcoming Miss Universe pageant, and any other Donald Trump program, after he made some ugly comments about Mexico sending America immigrants that are “criminals” and “rapists” and “people that have lots of problems.”
Trump, for his part, said that he was only criticizing U.S. policies concerning Mexico, not its people, although I don’t think that he was referring to U.S. policy when he called the Mexican people “criminals” and “rapists.” At any rate, Trump alleged that Univision was in default on its five-year contract and threatened to sue for “hundreds of millions of dollars.”
He also doubled down on his statements, basically saying that “it’s common sense” that Mexican immigrants are rapists. WHAT?
Meanwhile, Alberto Ciurana — Univision’s president of programming and content — posted this to Instagram (and later deleted it), in reference to Trump’s statements.
Woah, woah, woah! Back up there, Ciurana. There’s a difference between being a racist, which Trump may be, and Dylann Roof, an accused mass murderer.
Megyn Kelly over on Fox News took issue with the Instagram post in an interview with Trump, who called it “disgraceful.” He did say, however, that if Univision is allowed to host a presidential debate, he would appear on it, in spite of the fact that a Univision news anchor essentially called him a clown.
