James Tupper is an actor who’s about to have a very busy few months. After roles in acclaimed series such as Grey’s Anatomy and Revenge, he’ll be starring in the upcoming SyFy original series, Aftermath, set to premiere tomorrow, September 27. He’ll be co-starring with Reese Witherspoon in the upcoming HBO series Big Little Lies, set to premiere in February.
James was nice enough to take time out of his schedule to answer a few questions from us.
1. You walk into a bar. What do you order from the bartender?
Southside, or a beer.

3. What’s currently waiting for you on your DVR?
The Magicians on SyFy. Crazy great show.
4. It’s your last meal — what are you going out with?
I’m having a BBQ with my family and friends. With fish and potatoes.
5. What websites do you visit on a regular basis?
ESPN, WashingtonPost, NY Times, Trivia Crack.
6. What’s the most frequently played song on your mobile device?
Elvis’ “Treat Me Nice.”
7. If you could go back and give your 18-year-old self one piece of advice what would it be?
You are not “shit,” kid. Heaven has a plan for you.
8. What’s the last thing you Googled?
I think it was the Dodger score, and “Who are the Kurdish people?”
9. Dogs or cats?
I have both – right up the middle. My cat acts like a dude though.
10. Best concert of your life was…?
Wow, tough one… Recently I saw Alabama Shakes. Can’t say “best,” but it was the best one that night. It was the second weekend of Coachella.
11. What book are you most likely to give as a gift?
Underground Railroad or May We Be Forgiven
12. What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?
C’mon! I know it must have happened at the best concert of my life… What’s the question? I dunno… Forgive me for what I didn’t get right.
13. South Park or Family Guy?
I’ve been binge-ing on Family Guy this week, so I’ll go Family Guy.
14. You have an entire day to do whatever you want. What would you do?
A free day hasn’t been something I’ve had for a while…probably go for a long walk.
15. What movie can you not resist watching if it’s on?
Well, I fucking hate all super dude movies. I’m over it. Enough already. Iron Man 2 was just a perfect movie so I feel like I don’t ever need to see another one. Does anybody else notice they are all very similar? I like Nice Guys, the Russell Crowe movie. Hilarious. Like an old fashioned movie from the ’70s and ’80s and ’90s…? 6 Days, 7 Nights. Classic.
16. The sports team or teams you’re most passionate about?
I grew up in Nova Scotia, so I followed the Habs and the Pats. Hate us now, but we suffered worse than the Chiefs for years!
17. Where did you eat the best meal of your life?
I had a great lobster dinner at Gotham’s in Vancouver, BC. But the best was probably off the pier in Prince Edward Island where I grew up in the summer.
18. The last movie you saw in a theater?
Nice Guys.
19. Who was your first celebrity crush?
I liked Neo’s girlfriend, Trinity, in The Matrix. Tough and very female. Brave and vulnerable.
20. What would you cook if Nic Cage was coming to your house for dinner?
Nic Cage is going to kick anyone’s ass unless he gets his pasta. So don’t mess with that.
