Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin arguably was the biggest surprise in Daredevil. D’Onofrio’s careful, shaded portrayal of the mob boss and genius really gave the show some texture and brought out what fans loved about the character. And his return looks like it’s in the works, although he can’t reveal precisely when.
D’Onofrio weighed in on the Kingpin with Latino Review and noted he’s not under contract. But, apparently, he’s already been asked to come back.
There’s no giant commitment for me at Daredevil. Like I didn’t have to sign my life away at all. When Jeff tells me there’s something coming up and if I’m available, I’ll be there. And because it’s written so well, I’m going to show up… I do know [when he’s coming back], but I can’t answer… so take that how you will. Jeff and Charlie (Cox) and Netflix love Kingpin, and so, Kingpin is good for Marvel’s television stuff and I think they agree.
There are a few obvious nominees for a few spots that could use a Kingpin. The Defenders is shooting right now, Daredevil has a third season coming up, and Netflix has ordered a series of The Punisher. So there are a lot of places he could be turning up, and we’ll just have to wait and see.
