While so many of us are waiting patiently for new details about the upcoming Batman vs. Superman film, which stars Ben Affleck as a grizzled, older Caped Crusader who doesn’t have the patience to put up with that whippersnapper Man of Steel’s antics, Warner Bros. is about to introduce yet another generation to the Batman that started it all. Announced by none other than Conan O’Brien on Twitter, Warner will finally release the entire Batman TV series in a box set, and we can only hope that the cases will be sprayed down with shark repellant.
Confirmed by USA Today, the release will once again send Adam West’s Batman into the mainstream, undoubtedly sparking a wave of nostalgia for the goofiest version of DC’s beloved crime fighter. The TV series ran from 1966 to 1968 and starred West as Batman, Burt Ward as Robin, and Yvonne Craig as Batgirl, and I think I speak for most of the geeks in my father’s generation when I say that more Yvonne Craig is always a good thing.
The TV series has previously been aired on TV Land and FX, so there’s a chance that it’s not necessarily brand new to everyone, but if you’re wondering if you’ve watched it before, maybe this theme song will ring a bell.
At the risk of making an ass out of U and me, I’m hoping that the 1966 Batman movie is included in the box set, because newer fans of the Chris Nolan trilogy really haven’t lived until they’ve seen Batman fighting off a shark.
