Ricky Gervais might not be this year’s Golden Globes host, but the Hollywood Foreign Press Association felt the time was right to put him back in front of the microphone. Of course, everyone knew Gervais wasn’t just going to present the award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical to Amy Adams. Not by a long shot.
Within seconds of delivering a few self-deprecating jabs, Gervais named names and pointed fingers. “I’m not going to start picking on things you’ve done, some of it immoral, a lot of it illegal.” Whether or not they’d actually done anything, Meryl Streep, George Clooney, and Katie Holmes were all on the British comedian’s sh*t list.
He didn’t actually say anything nasty. Even so, no one in the audience was laughing just because Gervais mentioned Holmes by name. We all know what he was referring to.
