Weekend Preview: ‘The Night Of’ And ‘Roadies’ End, The Video Music Awards Air, And ‘The Strain’ Returns

The Night Of (HBO, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — Tonight marks the end of HBO’s crime-thriller mini-series. It’s been a wild ride full of whodunnit theories and lots of foot fetish talk. Tonight, Stone finds himself in the spotlight thanks to a controversy enveloping Naz’s defense team. Will we find out who really killed Andrea? Eh, the odds are 50/50.

Roadies (Showtime, Sunday 10:00 p.m.) — Cameron Crowe’s rock-centric drama has been a bit of a letdown in its first season, but it has had its moments of glory, too. Tonight’s finale sounds like it might end the season strong with a star-studded lineup coming together for a rock legend’s memorial (RIP Phil) and the crew facing an uncertain future.

2016 MTV Video Music Awards (MTV, Spike, BET, VH1, Comedy Central, TV Land, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — There are plenty of channels to watch this year’s VMA’s on. Rihanna receives the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award and performs at Madison Square Garden. Other acts slated to perform include Britney Spears with G-Eazy, Nick Jonas and Ty Dolla $ign, and Future. Expect Beyonce and Adele to go home with most of the hardware.

The Strain (FX, Sunday 10:00 p.m.) — Season three premieres with the strigoi becoming faster and smarter. Eph’s son is abducted, Setrakian and Quinlan try to unearth the Lumen’s deepest secrets, and Fet aids the Navy SEALs on a deadly mission through New York City’s underground tunnels.

NFL Preseason Football: Browns at Buccaneers (CBS, Friday 8:00 p.m.) — Cleveland heads to Tampa Bay to take on the Buccaneers.

Killjoys (Syfy, Friday 9:00 p.m.) — Pawter’s plan to free Old Town from Jelco’s rule winds up with Dutch being the target of an angry mob.

Dark Matter (Syfy, Friday 10:00 p.m.) — The crew plan a dangerous mission inside headquarters at Dwarf Star Technologies in order to save their ailing leader.

NFL Preseason Football: Titans at Raiders (CBS, Saturday 8:00 p.m.) — Tennessee takes on Oakland.

UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Condit: From Vancouver (Fox, Saturday 8:00 p.m.) — Hope you like men beating each other to a pulp because that’s all you’re getting this weekend. If it’s not football, it’s this. Demian Maia battles Carlos Condit in the welterweight main event in Vancouver.

Aquarius (NBC, Saturday 9:00/10:00 p.m.) — While Hodiak is busy exploring clues that lead him to other murder suspects, Manson searches for Emma and ends up on the detective’s doorstep. Later, Hodiak finds Emma in a sanatorium, but faces danger while trying to get her out.

2016 MTV VMA Pre-Show (MTV, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) — You could be watching E!’s lame red carpet coverage or you could be watching Snapchat guru DJ Khaled host the pre-show festivities. I know which one I’d choose.

Celebrity Family Feud (ABC, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) — Olympic skier Gus Kenworthy and family face off against Sheryl Underwood and family; and David Chokachi and family battle Alan Thicke and family.

NFL Preseason Football: Bengals at Jaguars (NBC, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) — It’s Cincinnati at Jacksonville tonight.

Big Brother (CBS, Sunday 8:00 p.m.) — We learn who may be exiting the house next as nominations for eviction are revealed.

Fear the Walking Dead (AMC, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — Nick is recruited for a dangerous assignment as Madison, Strand, and others try to find a path to move forward after the compound is compromised.

Power (Starz, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — Angela is left reeling after her breakup with Ghost, but must pull herself together for a new case at work. Meanwhile, Ghost and Tommy get reacquainted with the game as Ghost struggles to hold onto the club deal.

Ray Donovan (Showtime, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — Ray manages to find a way to use Kovitzsky-gallery art as leverage to protect his own, and Hector seeks Ray’s help after his wife leaves him with their daughter in order to get away from the incest scandal.

The $100,000 Pyramid (ABC, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — The celebrity matchups include Kevin Pollak vs. Niecy Nash and Bridget Moynahan vs. Rex Lee.

The Last Ship (TNT, Sunday 9:00 p.m.) — Chandler faces his long-time enemy as Kara continues her mission with the help of a new ally.

BrainDead (CBS, Sunday 10:00 p.m.) — Luke enlists Laurel’s help on an antiwar political documentary, but she must team up with her ex-boyfriend to finish the film.

Survivor’s Remorse (Starz, Sunday 10:00 p.m.) — Cam and Reggie return to Boston for a wedding and M-Chuck juggles multiple relationships.

Ballers (HBO, Sunday 10:45 p.m.) — Spencer scrambles to stay ahead of Andre after a surprise office visit, Joe learns some damming information about his partner, and Ricky tries to reconcile with his father.
