A Compendium of Cool Comics Cosplay: November 18th

By / 11.18.11

Welcome to Gamma Squad’s regular Friday comic book cosplay feature, spotlighting the best superhero (and villain) related costuming from the cosplay community.  We’re casting the spotlight onto those cosplayers who we think deserve special recognition for coming up with the best costumes, whatever the budget, and the photographers who capture them for posterity.
Gamma Squad is committed to giving a voice to the cosplay community that thrives in groups like TheSuperheroCostumingForum.com. Each week we spotlight our favorite costumes and each month we host a cosplay contest. We’ll be picking a theme for each month and inviting cosplayers, costumers and photographers to submit related pictures of their work to our Flickr group to be considered. We’ll then pick our top choices and post them on Gamma Squad for the adoration of all.
The theme for the upcoming month is:

  • Spider-man and Friends

But in the meantime, let’s continue with this week’s selection.

Phoenix cosplay by Kearstin Nicholson. Submitted to our Flickr Group.

A classic X-men costume is brought to life by this accomplished cosplayer.

Always a pleasure to see some less high profile characters getting some love, and this Ravager cosplayer’s obviously gone to considerable effort with her costume.

Wanda Maximoff’s always a favorite for cosplayers – and with costumery of this quality, with us as well.

Cyborg Superman cosplay by tk1055. Source: The Superhero Costuming Forum

It’s always great to see a cosplayer take on a challenge and bringing Hank Henshaw to life is certainly that. The facemask and gauntlets are definitely a highlight of this costume.

Emma Frost cosplay at Anaheim Comic-Con 2011. Photo by Joits. Source: Flickr

Emma Frost’s gaining popularity amongst cosplayers in recent years, so it’s great to see this take on her which goes beyond simply raiding the lingerie department and attempts to capture the comic look.

Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy and Catwoman cosplay at New York Comic-Con 2011. Photo by FirstPerson Shooter. Source: Flickr

A trio of Gotham City Sirens in this shot. And a trio of fantastic costumes. Virtual flawless even?

Iron Man cosplay at Dragon*Con 2011. Photo by madmarv00. Source: Flickr

Another challenging costume and Iron Man’s taken back to his comic roots in this take on his 80s Silver Centurion armor. Incredible work.

Red Sonja cosplay at New York Comic Con 2011 by beautilation. Source: Tumblr

Beautilation’s a newcomer to the cosplay scene and with a debut like this, cosplaying the She-Devil with a Sword, she’s definitely set a high standard.

Squirrel Girl and Lady Deadpool cosplayers at Comikaze 2011. Photo by DTJAAAAM. Source: Flickr

Deadpool meets hi… er, her nemesis in this shot from Comikaze. Nice to see some fan favorites getting some love.

Black Canary – Crimefighter by youronlydoll. Source: Deviantart

Another Black Canary cosplayer, and looking like she just stepped out of the pages of Birds of Prey, setting an extremely high standard.
