Here's The First American Wii U TV Ad. It's Less Garbage!

Remember about a week ago when we showed you Britain’s first Wii U TV ad? You know, the one featuring absolutely no decent gameplay footage, a grating, shouty announcer with a love for “spings” and a weird eastern European girlfriend who just wants you to turn the stupid Wii U off so she can watch the TV now? It was pretty abysmal. At the time I said I hoped Nintendo of America was working on something slick, and hey, turns out they kind of were.

Hit the jump for the first North American Wii U TV Ad…

At least the ad’s well produced and full of pretty people and dubsteppy beats. It makes the Wii U seem like it might be a cool thing. That said, Nintendo still seems terrified to show the general public any actual footage of Wii U games. Also, unlike the European ad, Nintendo of America has left 3rd parties entirely out in the cold.

So yeah, it’s a slick, but ultimately fairly empty ad. A long way off from the pretty brilliant “Wii would like to play” campaign that kicked off the original Wii.
