My Wallet Hurts: Batman Goes Weekly In 2014 With A New Scott Snyder-Led Series ‘Batman Eternal’

2014 is shaping up to be a big year for Batman. First and foremost, the caped crusader is getting his first ever weekly series, Batman Forever, er I mean, Batman Eternal. The book will be “led” by current Batman writer Scott Snyder, although he may be acting more as an editor, with the likes of James Tynion IV, Tim Seeley, Ray Fawkes and John Layman handling most of the writing. So far the only artist announced for the series is Jason Fabok.

Batman Eternal will be similar to Gotham Central or the underappreciated Streets of Gotham, in that it will mainly focus on Gotham City’s vast array of supporting characters, with Batman likely making juuust enough cameos to keep fans reading.

In other Batman news, the B-man will celebrate his 75th anniversary in Detective Comics #27, which will be a nearly 100-page special, featuring work from the likes of Paul Dini, Neal Adams, Brad Meltzer and Frank Miller. Don’t worry, word is Frank Miller will only be contributing art and won’t be writing anything.

Also, after the big birthday bash, Detective Comics may actually continue to be readable for the first time since the New 52 reboot. Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato, the creative team behind the well-liked New 52 version of The Flash will be taking over the series.

So yeah, I guess I better get fitted for a barrel with suspenders now, because DC apparently wants all my money.
